about

'16 songs, mostly written for Dave Colohan's former band Holt and written about his time spent backpacking in Australia . Here he is accompanied by Eddie Keenan (The Driftwood Manor), Enda Trautt and Bean Dolan. Safe to say, Colohan's songwriting never disappoints, the instrumental tracks on here are rich with melancholy and the field recordings are highly evocative. Highly recommended.' Boa Melody Bar

Almost all of the lyrics & a handful of the songs on this album had their beginnings in Holt, a band I shared with Steve O'Brien, Conor Foley, Alan Caulfield & Enda Trautt (who returns here.) Though some were planned to go on the never-recorded second Holt album, they have travelled far from their original versions, if not so far from their original vision. They were recorded in houses, farms & theatres in Longford, Westmeath, Dublin & Monaghan between 2008 & 2010 & smeared with recordings made in Australia itself. The Ebb & Flow Of Distant Moonlit Grass is dedicated to the memory of Tony Dale.

Ballymahon, August 2010.

Originally released as a double cdr, 8 songs on each disc, in a small run on Dirt Music.

about

Agitated Radio Pilot Ireland

'Colohan seems to have a preternatural sense of the elemental, those dark places we all go to take off our disguises. So many artists have treaded this ground before and seemed insincere, but Colohan's vulnerability, his human voice that presents these unadorned truths without spin or motive, makes me want to listen and believe.'
